How often should I feed my dog?
My vet said I should feed him once every 12 hours, only because he’s sick right now…
right now he gets two tablespoons of special wet dog food (to help his digestive system) mixed in with half a small dog food bowl of his regular dry dog food. (purina puppy chow)
He’s a dachshund and he’s about 7 years old in human years.
When he gets better how often and how much should I feed him?

Twice a day is fine. Just make sure you do not overfeed him. Check the food to see how much to feed him. Dachshunds are prone to obesity and if you leave food out all the time most of them will keep eating even though they are full. Also, go light on the treats and very little human food.
Good luck and may your puppy feel better. He’s less than a year old?

Always have food in his bowl. If he gets hungry and there’s no food in is bowl, he’ll probably scratch at it. Then you feed him.

When my family had a dog, we pretty much always kept food in his bowl. He never weighed too much when we did that. But I have many friends who feed their dog twice a day, usually at the same time every day.

I heard the general rule is what the vet said even if the dog is not sick.
Every 12 hours. Dogs who have food all day are usually unhealthy couch dogs.

I feed my dog around 11:30 AM and at about 5 PM.
You should feed them in the morning and at night.

It really depends. Some people just fill up the dog food bowl and let the dogs eat. The best thing to do is feed your dog three times a day. All the food that he needs to ear in a day divide it be three. Feed him in the morning, at lunch and in the evening before 8p.m.
Hope this helps and hope your dog gets well.

I don’t know what is wrong with your Dachshund, but I definitely think he deserves better food than Purina. My Dachshund is allergic to all grains. Purina is filled with corn. That is the #1 thing dogs are allergic to.He may not get better on what he is eating. I recommend Solid Gold Barking at the Moon. You can’t miss it. It is the one in the metallic turquoise bag. I feed my dogs twice a day. It is better for their digestion. Best of luck with your Dachshund, aren’t they just the best little dogs ever?

A dog should be fed twice daily even as an adult. It is better for their digestion.
Also get your dog off Purina and on to something better. Get him on a food that doesn’t contain corn, wheat, soy, sugars, by products or dyes. Look for a good food thathas meat as at least the first 2-3 ingredients.
Dogs should never be free fed. it can lead to obesity, weight loss, aggression, pickiness, etc and from a medical stand point it is a really bad idea..A delay in critical treatment could result if a problem ever arose because with a free fed dog owners rarely know when the dog last ate or how much he ate.

the best is two times a day in any amount the bag says would be best for his weight but dont ever leave the bowl out all day then he will snack on it all day long when he is done with his first feeding wait till whenever you think is best and feeed him again but always leave water out all day

2 times a day and go with some dog food that is all natural. Just give him what is suggested on the bag. Then adjust it based on his body weight.

your vet is a pro, do what they say. thats why they get paid.

I think that that sounds right. Plus if the vet said so it might help him.
