Electric Dog Fence: Your Aid in Letting Your Dog Know His Boundaries

Electric Dog Fence: Your Aid in Letting Your Dog Know His Boundaries

There are a number of things that you can do so that you can let your dog know his boundaries, especially if it concerns protecting your landscaped grounds. One of these things is setting up an electric dog fence around the areas that you want to protect like your fishpond, swimming pool, garden, driveway, and flowerbeds. Furthermore, because this electric dog fence does not allow your dog to stray beyond its borders, you can also make sure that no harm can come to your neighbor’s properties as well.

Now, although an invisible electric fence was originally designed as a portable fence system for those families who loves to travel and go camping, it is now one of the most favorite fencing systems of just about any family that loves dogs as much as their beautiful surroundings. This is because of the advantages it brings to everyone using it which is hassle free, you can keep you dog waya with out any trouble with the Fence!

Training Your Dog with the Fence

If you really want your dog to know his place not only in your home but also on your grounds, then putting up an electric dog fence is the best way to train him. This is because there is a type of electric dog fence that comes with a radio collar that you could attach on your dog. The collar works by sending a mild corrective static to your dog once he steps beyond the boundaries. As your dog will associate this corrective static with the areas of your grounds where you have set up the wires of your fence system, then in time he will never venture near these areas anymore, with or without the radio collar.

It is best if you will set up your electric dog fence around the entire expanse of your grounds. It is also good to put the fence around the areas that you want protected from the digging forays of your dog.

Advantages of Using the Fence

Although your primary aim in getting an electric dog fence may have been protecting your property from damage and letting your dog know his boundaries, there are other advantages to this as well. One of these is their functionality when it comes to not taking up space on your property. Because the fence comes with special wires that you must bury around the areas of your property that you want to be protected, then you won’t need to have ugly-looking fences marring the beauty of your landscape. With an electric dog fence installed around your property, you will be letting the natural growth of trees and shrubs do its work of fencing the grounds where your house stands.

So if you are planning to get an electric dog fence for your grounds, then look into the offerings available on Pet Depot Online. Here, you will be able to choose from the veritable selection that they have when it comes to invisible electric fences. The great thing about them is that they come with reasonable prices as well.

Part of a new book… Please answer!!?

PLOT: George Miller is an autistic boy who loses his dad in the Afghanistan war. Soon after he creates an imaginary person called the Red Face. Its a bit like Son of Rambow (if any of you ahve seen it) and its all from the eyes of a seven year old autistic boy so things seem very different. This is just a small part from it… (I’m still only 20 pages in so I’ve got far to go lol):
(It has some swearing in by the way :P )

George, to get home, needed to pass the dog beach and pass them. Only the fence separated him from them. They could easily jump over. His heart beat quickened again. It was time for him to run.
He ducked down slightly, behind the fence and began sneaking past them as fast as he could. Their voices seemed closer than they were and he eavesdropped on their conversations: ‘My dad is better than you’re dad.’
The big boys weren’t the smartest humans on earth.
‘Oh my god, Kristy is so fit.’
‘Yeah, I wanna-’
George heard a word which he wasn’t supposed to hear. He prayed that it wouldn’t accidentally slip out when he was speaking and carried on, his feet made absolutely no sound on the floor. He was like a thief in the dead of night.
‘Mr Dartsmoor is such a-’
Another naughty word to add to George’s colourful dictionary.
‘He gave me a decky the other day for swearing.’
George didn’t know what a ‘decky’ was, but he knew it was bad.
‘Do you know who else I hate? Dylan Miller. He’s such a-’
Another bad word. George felt a tinge of anger. Dylan Miller was George’s older cousin and George respected him greatly. Dylan stuck up for him like his other relatives never had.
He ignored the anger though, because if he didn’t it would explode inside him and he would shout. Then the big boys would hear. Then George would be dead.
George made it to the first gate. There were four in all, leading into the doggie beach. They were rotted and old, squeaking on hinges that had been created over forty years ago. The slightest push would set them off. It was just unlucky that it was George’s elbow that gave it that small push.
The wood hit his funny bone and his arm erupted in the strange tingly numb feeling. George gasped with pain and gasped again when the hinge of the gate shrieked like a cat in a blender. The big boys swivelled round, seeing a half open gate and a little seven year old ‘ortisam’ boy in a black coat despite the hotness, quickly trying to run away.
‘It’s autism boy!’ one of them yelled.
George cried in fear and stood fully up. He saw them, four in all, watching him with grinning faces. For a few seconds he was frozen in terror that they’d beat him up. Then he ran. Ran as fast as he possibly could.
He heard the big boys laughing. One shouted, ‘Follow him!’ They did. George didn’t look back, but he heard the squealing of the rusty gate and heard their footsteps on the pathway.
The shortcut home lay between a group of small hills. Another bridge, hidden behind them led onto a donkey field. A rough pathway around it led back to George’s housing estate. And that was the way he was about to go.
George was suddenly thigh deep in grass, running towards the first hill and breath running out quickly. He had never been good at running.
He looked behind him and saw the big boys. They thought it was fun, chasing an ‘ortisam’ person. They were only twelve so this was their idea of a good time. It wasn’t George’s idea.
No, not at all.
One foot hit the slope in the ground. George didn’t expect it and stumbled forward, throwing his hands in front of him. They caught his body just in time and, almost like a dog, he scrambled up to the top of the hill. The big boys weren’t far behind.
George brushed past the pools of nettles, hoping the boys wouldn’t notice them and sting themselves. Then he was going down. He stepped back on to level ground and continued his hurry to the bridge.
The big boys were catching up with him. Their legs were longer and they had more stamina. George’s legs were stubby and his stamina was low. It was like a sloth being chased by a leopard.
‘Got him!’ one of them cried. And indeed, a hand clasped onto the arm of George’s coat. George tried to throw it off, but this only resulted with him tumbling to the floor. His face drowned in a sea of grass as the big boys stopped, surrounding him. He rolled over, spitting out pieces of mud and grass.
Above him they stared down, their faces silhouetted against the blue sky. It reminded George of a film where the bad guys were never seen, always dark figures.
‘Guys, this is mean,’ one of the said.
‘Shut up Oliver.’ Another one snapped.
Oliver shook his head and stepped away. ‘I’m not going to be a part of this. It’s nasty.’
‘-off!’ That bad word again.
‘He’s an autism boy.’ The tallest one remarked. ‘He doesn’t know any better.’ He looked down at George, ‘Do you?’
George couldn’t speak just like usual. He turned his head slightly, so as not to look at the boy’s face.
The tallest one nodded, ‘See. I told you.

What should I do about the dog next door?

There is a dog next door names Cody. The family that lives with him is always gone and they just keep him in the backyard. I feed him through the fence and he ate 3 bowls of my dog’s food. It’s cold outside
and he has short fur. They starve him and never play with him. I was thinking about taking him to the SPCA. Should I take him or leave him until the owners come home like they do every now and then?

holy crap! crazy story!?

So I’m 18 (and a girl) and I just went to the most uncomfortable event I’ve ever been to. So I’m (more or less, secretly) seeing this boy who lives in my neighborhood. My aunt (my mom’s younger sister) is in town visiting and stayed with us last night. After dinner and we had all gone to bed, (about 1:30) I snuck over to this boy’s house (his parents are at the community center all night cooking brisket for the barbecue today). So we were kissing and whatnot, and things got a little hot and pretty soon we were having sex in his bedroom. Well needless to say, my heart leaped into my throat when I saw his mom pull in the driveway. I was totally 100% butt naked, no clothes on at all, and there was no time to escape. My clothes were scattered around his room, and i threw them up on top of his tv stand (like 8 feet tall) lol, and I made a break for his closet. I couldn’t move because I could hear his mom going around the house looking for something. Then she came into his room and asks why he’s still up and if he’s seen their dog leash. Lol. So I’m frozen and scared, cramped up in a little ball, butt naked on the floor of his (non walk-in) closet. So minutes turn into hours, still too scared to get out of there, and I ended up dozing off. Well I woke up at 7 am when his mom comes back into the room to wake him up to get dressed. He came and got me once the coast was clear, but my clothes were still up on that thing and it would have taken too long to get them, so I just grabbed one of his button-down shirts and bailed out the window. So then I was navigating my way back to my house over fences and across yards (including a 30 acre vacant field) in the dim overcast morning light, wearing only a button-down dress shirt (which was relatively ineffective in concealing my female parts). Well I finally got into my neighbor’s yard (there’s no fence between the two houses) after running a good quarter mile and climbing fences, and I tripped and fell in their pool. So I finally get out and scamper to the back door (were I had left from) hoping it was still unlocked. It was. So I took the shirt off and wringed the water out of it, and walked in the house. I took one step, and stopped dead in my tracks. You could only hear the water droplets hitting the floor. My aunt was sitting there in the living room staring right at me. She had been up for an hour. She saw me come to the back door out of breath, soaking wet, butt naked, holding a boy’s dress shirt, and having been missing at least since she got up. She didn’t say anything. I just kinda sheepishly waved, and ran to my room, dried off, and crawled in bed. Today, at the barbecue, no one said a thing. My friend (with benefits) was there, his parents were there, my parents were there, and my aunt was there. I can’t believe I actually got away scott free. I’m going to be really nice to my aunt from now on. lol

There is a friendly unneutered collarless cat hanging around my house, can someone familiar w/cats help me?

It was laying on my front porch this afternoon, and when it saw me it came to the glass and started meowing. My dog is really aggressive toward other animals, so he started growling and barking at it through the glass, the cat was unfazed. It is really thin, so I took it some dog food and water (I read later that you shouldn’t give cats dog food, so I gave it some raw tuna fish and it ate an entire can’s worth).

I’m going to get it checked for a microchip, but I really don’t think someone would have it microchipped and not neutered. It is so friendly I can’t imagine its been living on its own for long. When I go outside, it follows me everywhere, I can’t take a step without it following, and when I go back inside it tries to squeeze in between my feet to get in the house.

It hung around all day and slept underneath my car, but as it started getting dark I decided to put it in my backyard. It kept walking along the rock waterfall that runs across the back of my pool, and it would lean in over the water. At around 9:30 pm, I was in my backyard with it trying to decide where I should put it and all of a sudden another cat jumped over my fence. They meowed at each other, but the other cat was scared of me and it ran off to the side of my house. I decided to put my stray in the driveway, because it wouldn’t stay away from the water. The other cat started meowing from my front yard then ran to my neighbor’s yard. I didn’t get a very good look at it, but it was the exact same size as my stray (tiny). My neighbors’ cats’ are all bigger and kept inside, especially at night.

Sorry for the long-winded backstory, these are my questions:

I have never seen unneutered stray animals without collars running around in the area where I live, is it possible someone dumped these cats in my neighborhood? Maybe thinking a family would take them in and take care of them?

They meowed at each other from a distance and just kind of stared at each other, like they were curious. Is it safe to assume they will get along and not fight? I’m worried the other cat is an unspayed female and their meowing was some kind of mating call.

Are they going to be safe outside? I live in a neighborhood in the suburbs, but there is some wooded area about a block from my house. Would a possum or raccoon try and attack the cat? And would the cat be able to get away?

Is it better to leave my driveway light on to keep other animals away? It can still hide under my car or in some plants along the fence that aren’t lit up.

I found a no kill shelter in the Houston area called Noah’s Ark Animal Sanctuary, I’m going to call tomorrow and see if they can take care of it. Thanks in advance for the help, I don’t know anything about cats or how to take care of them!

What rights do I have as a home-owner if…?

A while back a family moved next door to us, with them they brought a child whom they told us had some prior problems with abuse and abandonment. The child is around 5 – 7 years of age. It started out as a simple thing, the kid kept coming around into our yard and would pester us anytime we were outside, we were very polite about the situation and asked him to go home. If he refused or kept coming back we would go and tell his aunt. The problem escalated and he tried to climb into our back yard, our dog bit the child on his ear. They handled the situation fairly and did not report our dog for biting him because they respected that the kid was in our fenced in back yard, and there are signs clearly posted on all sides of the fence. The problem has grown worse, and the kid has become an annoyance to many of the neighbors. He often throws his toys and other things from his back yard into our yard, and sometimes into our pool, we have asked his aunt and uncle several times to please tell him not to do so. He continues to do it, almost on a daily basis. He has, on several occasions, reached his hands through our fence and clearly expressed the intention to get bit. It has become an absolute burden, and I’m afraid that my dog is going to get put down if they report him – because it is more than likely that the kid will get himself bit when we are not home. The people in that home are completely neglectful of the child, he can be constantly found playing in the street or pestering us and his gaurdians are nowhere to be seen. There are several marks on the child, and there usually seems to be and I worry if maybe he is being abused, sometimes he can be heard screaming and will run outside and down the street. Even if his aunt or uncle do happen to be outside they say nothing when he comes into our yard to pester us unless we ask them to do so. We have tried yelling at the kid, threatening to call the police, everything we can think of to get rid of him, but like a moth to a flame he just keeps coming back. Their backyard is a total eye sore, and there is trash scattered all about and they have a ton of items propped up against the fence to keep their dog from getting under, which brings me to my next peeve. Their dog is constantly crawling udner the fence and getting into our yard, they are totally neglectful of the dog, even more so than with the child, I never see them feed her, she has no collar, no tags, Im postive shes never had any sort of preventive treatments or regimens for diseases that could harm her, or spread to our dog. At first when she came in the yard she wouldnt bother our dog, but lately she has become more than agressive with him and has bitten him once. We were not home but fortunately our other neighbors witnessed it. When our neighbors went to their home to confront the owner about the dog coming into our yard and biting Buddy (our dog) he was very hostile about the situation and said "Well Buddy is no angel and he has bit my kid before." He also tried to say that it is his gate, and as such it’s some how our fault if the kid reaches his hands over. So, to make sure he could not use that argument we have bought another fence, and are in the process of putting it up. As of today, the child tried to throw oil into our pool, he was flinging dog ‘droppings’ into our yard, and attempted to hit our youngest with a baseball bat – one of the miniature wooden ones but none the less a very blunt object capable of harming another. He also hit my oldest with the bat because my oldest stepped in front of the bat to prevent my little one from being hurt. We have tried to be polite, we have tried to put up with it, but we are not about to leave the home that we love because our ‘hillbilly’ neighbors from Hell can’t get their act together and keep their kid under control. Its completely unfair to us, especially because we own our home and they as from what we can tell, rent. Today’s attempt to hit my son was by far the last straw — WHAT CAN WE DO!?

What are some good dogs for kids?

I posted this earlier but am still looking for advise. My dog got hit by a car and passed away. She was a great dog and best of all she was wonderful with my son. She is greatly missed. We got her at the pound and she was a mutt, I don’t really know what breed she is. Here is some pictures of her maybe you can tell me what kind of dog she was.

http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m220/southernstar1976_2006/March2009207.jpg

Caden and Charlotte

I wouldn’t mind getting another dog the same breed as her but I am open minded on other types of dogs that would fit our family. I have a son that is almost 2 years old so I want a dog that is good with kids. We live on a farm and the dogs will have free range 95% of the time. The dog will be living outside and needs to have a pretty good coat, we live in Kentucky so it gets decently cold here but also get really hot in the summer. There is ponds on our property and I usually have a baby pool for the dogs in the summer. I am willing to spend a lot of time training the dog, I know this is the most important thing. I always raise my dogs in the house so they have all the affection they need. But they have to be able to stay outside by themselves. I always keep at least 2 dogs so they can keep each other company. I feel so sorry for my dog right now, it was his mom that got hit by a car. You never seen those 2 dogs apart, I mean never. He is so lost right now and keeps looking for her. I want to get a puppy and hope he will take to it and they can become friends.

I was hoping to find a breed that is mild mannered and good with kids. I don’t know if this is a trait but if they are known to dig that is what got my dog killed. There is 1000s of feet of fence and it is hard to keep an eye on it all. I know dogs like to dig but if there are breeds that really love it I would like to stay away from that. I don’t know a lot about breeds, I usually go to the pound and look for a dog that responds well. That is how I got my last dog and she was the perfect dog. I spent a lot of time with her as a puppy and she listened very well and didn’t have a mean bone in her body. Plus my favorite trait was she was a great mother to her puppies and was so protective of my son. She was always a few steps behind him. I still might just go with a mutt and try picking it out by playing with them and bonding with one.

Sorry I feel like I am rambling, I just feel such a loss and I want to try to fill that. Any advice would be great.

Football fan to the rescue…?

Two boys are playing football in Central Park when one is attacked by a rabid Rottweiler. Thinking quickly, the other boy rips off a board of the nearby fence, wedges it down the dog’s collar and twists, breaking the dogs neck.

A reporter who was strolling by sees the incident, and rushes over to interview the boy.

“Young Giants Fan Saves Friend From Vicious Animal,” he starts writing in his notebook.

“But I’m not a Giants fan,” the little hero replied.

“Sorry, since we are in New York, I just assumed you were.” said the reporter and starts again. “Little Jets Fan Rescues Friend From Horrific Attack” he continued writing in his notebook.

“I’m not a Jets fan either,” the boy said.

“I assumed everyone in New York was either for the Giants or Jets. What team do you root for?” the reporter asked.

“I’m a Cowboys fan,” the child said.

The reporter starts a new sheet in his notebook and writes, “Little Redneck Maniac Kills Beloved Family Pet.”
